Director/VP, Product Management, Advanstar
We seek an experienced product manager with substantial online retail experience to develop and lead the launch of a revolutionary digital platform that provides manufacturers (brands) and retailers (buyers) with innovative and effective tools to facilitate continuous commerce, communication and community.
The Director or VP, Product Management will drive development and execution of the website roadmap initiatives with an eye on creating long-term business value with a rich customer experience; works with external customers and merchandisers, IT, developers, marketing and sales staff to prioritize and develop innovative, customer-facing online
features. This role will report directly to the CEO.
Responsibilities:
- Works with Advanstar’s vendors and business units to conduct product road-map activities, i.e.collecting and refining ideas, performing ROI calculations, and providing prioritized product planoptions to the customers and senior management.
- Creates and participates in requirements workshops; writes and constructs detailed requirements, project briefs and other related documents for online initiatives.
- Directs, assists and ensures that scope and deadlines for projects are met; this includes design, testing, application recommendations, liaising with the business development teams and customers. Works to streamline processes/increase efficiencies.
- Develops strong team relationships; works closely with cross-functional team members to ensure successful project delivery; owns the delivery of small projects or the individual work track within a larger initiative.
- Has end-to-end product ownership for focused, customer-facing systems, ensuring that the breadth of scope and depth of requirements are captured from business partners; ensures a strong, detailed orientation for each project – knows the scope, budget, plan and objectives.
- Defines, documents and communicates project requirements, and aligns all stakeholders; works closely to set expectations and explain technology issues in business terms.
- Works closely with technological architects and engineers to explain requirements and business issues in technology terms.
- BA/BS in business, computer science or a related field.
- 7+ experience working in a product management capacity. Experience in web product management and is fluent in the languages of web architecture, engineering and the business side of ecommerce.
- Thinks and communicates strategically and tactically, i.e. be able to define and communicate a clear strategy and be close to the details.
- Excellent facilitation and negotiation skills to reconcile varying stakeholder needs, with the ability to communicate will all levels of employees.
- Strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, initiative and ability to own projects from start to finish.
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced, collaborative, team environment.
- Ability to reconcile conflicting viewpoints, juggle multiple and competing initiatives while meeting all established goals and deadlines.
- Experience in a retail business, preferably online.
